Icraf Master Plan
NAIROBI, KENYA
ICRAFs original headquarters designed by Triad
in association with White of Sweden, was located
on a 2-hectare site. Triad identified extra land to
expand the Centre and prepared a Master Plan to
facilitate fund-raising. During the fund-raising
process Triad prepared detailed analyses of space
requirements, collected data on requirements for
different laboratories for scientists, facilitated
meetings to discuss the composition of the different
elements on the site and prepared alternative
plans for the Centre.
This process, over a period of two years, resulted
in a confirmed Master Plan which was funded by
the governments of Germany, Japan and Kenya.
The first phase of this plan was the construction
of the laboratory and the auditorium block as illustrated
elsewhere. The master planning exercise
is on-going, with additional buildings being
planned in 2001 and 2002 to host associated research
institutions and to cater for ICRAFs expanding
operations.
