KIKUYU , KENYA
Triad were commissioned by the Medical Benevolence Foundation of Texas,
USA who were the managing donor for this project, and which was partially
funded by ASHA/USAID.
The Orthopaedic Rehabilitation Centre has a wide catchment area and provides
diagnostic and surgical in-patient facilities for a range of orthopaedic
conditions. The Out Patients Department acts as a screening department for
cases and is supported with diagnostics (X-Ray and laboratory) and pharmaceutical
facilities. Two operating theatres with an associated CSSD and 35
ward beds are a key component to the project. These are also supported by a
Physiotherapy Department and an Orthopaedic Prosthetics Workshop. On-site
housing and nurses hostels have also been constructed as part of this project.
Funds for the project
were limited and tight
cost control were exercised.
The core of the
project, the main hospital
and the Out Patients
building, were constructed
for one million
dollars, exclusive of fees
and taxes.
The project was handed over to the client in June 1998.
